OCT 9 2024
On Saturday, August 10, InnovaLab, as part of the international HARMONIZE project, successfully carried out the training titled "Climate Change Impacts: Data Management and Health Training" in the city of Iquitos. This initiative aims to strengthen public health response capacities in the face of climate change challenges in the Amazon region.
The event brought together prominent professionals from various key institutions in the region, including the Regional Health Authority (GERESA) of Loreto, the National Meteorology and Hydrology Service (SENAMHI), the Institute of Amazonian Research (IIAP), and the National University of the Peruvian Amazon (UNAP). During the training, participants learned and applied innovative tools for data management and spatial analysis, essential for improving public health strategies in a context of increasing climate vulnerability.
The program included a series of specialized workshops led by experts in the field:
- Diego Villa, statistician and data analyst, led the Data Management workshop, providing participants with advanced knowledge in organizing and analyzing crucial information for public health decision-making.
- Gabriel Carrasco, PhD in Public Health and director of InnovaLab, offered a workshop focused on the Health Impacts of Climate Change, emphasizing the need to adapt public health strategies to emerging environmental challenges.
- María Galvis, MSc in Anthropology and Development and Environment, and guest from the HARMONIZE team in Colombia, conducted a workshop on Public Engagement, focusing on strengthening interinstitutional and community collaboration in response to climate challenges.
- Antony Barja, geographic engineer and GIS analyst, led the workshop on Spatial Analysis in Health, equipping professionals with geographic tools for evaluating and planning health interventions.
- Natalia Niño, PhD in Science and Technology Studies and MSc in Anthropology, gave a presentation on preparing for outbreaks, future epidemics, and health crises through building a software ecosystem for analytics and modeling.
InnovaLab is committed to equipping health professionals in the region with the knowledge and skills necessary to face the effects of climate change, and the Harmonize project has been a key ally in this process. This training is a crucial step to ensure that the region's institutions can effectively respond to the challenges ahead.
The Harmonize project, recognized for its innovative approach in integrating data for public health, has been instrumental in developing these types of trainings aimed at mitigating the adverse effects of climate change on the most vulnerable communities.
Innovalab, in partnership with HARMONIZE, will continue to develop initiatives that promote capacity building in the region, reaffirming its commitment to the health and well-being of the community.
