HARMONIZE Project in Peru Receives Funding from GLIDE: Transforming Data into Public Health Actions

Lima, 2023 - The Global Institute for Disease Elimination (GLIDE) introduced this year the Falcon Award for Disease Elimination: Climate Edit, a global initiative aiming to expand the evidence concerning the intersection between disease elimination and climate. In its inaugural edition, nine winners were chosen, each receiving a grant of up to $50,000.00 to undertake a formative research project over a six-month period before COP28.
The Falcon Awards, supported by a collaboration between the President of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohamed, and Bill Gates, represent a pioneering effort to fund projects centered around public health. This fund has identified nine exceptional projects, with HARMONIZE being one of them. The initiative aims to leverage HARMONIZE's growing data infrastructure to develop practical and actionable solutions, starting with a predictive model to detect dengue outbreaks and subsequently apply it to other diseases related to the effects of climate change.
Interested teams in the application process for GLIDE’s Falcon Awards are required to submit concise proposals that include clear budgets and short-term achievable objectives. The funds granted will be used to complement HARMONIZE's financing. This includes the acquisition of thermal drones, acoustic sensors, air quality monitors, specialized servers, and other essential equipment. These resources will enhance data recollection capabilities and facilitate the creation of interactive dashboards, enabling public health authorities to make decisions based on concrete real-time information.
